Up Genting

Zakayo Nderi just rode up the route that has been taken by the pros for the last 3 years in the Tour De Langkawi.

He rode up with Ng Yong Li, who’s Malaysia’s top pro. Yong Li finished 30th on the Genting stage of the Tour De Langkawi, 7’40” behind the winner of that stage, a pro from Columbia called Jose Serpa.

Zakayo did the 33km climb, said by pros to be Alpe D’huez times 2, in 1hr32mins. That’s a little under 22km/h. He finished 14’45” ahead of Yong Li, but Yong Li wasn’t really pushing it. He rode with his heart rate at between 160 and 170 bpm.

It seems the numbers are adding up. He did the last 15km in 44 minutes. If the gradient is similar to Alpe D’Huez, he’ll have to chop 5 minutes off that time by September.

We’ll need to find a way to get the times verified in Europe so people will believe us. But after Genting, I’m a believer.
